One down...

and who knows how many more to go?
Yesterday, I caught my first mouse. And I feel pretty guilty about it! My dad told me to keep setting out the traps because chances are that there is more than one living near or in or around my house. Which led me to envision the following conversation taking place:

Little Mouse: Mom, is Dad coming back any time soon? He just went to get us some peanut butter that was left right out in our path!

Mom: No, honey. I don't think he's coming back. Dad has gone to that big cheese wedge in the sky.

I feel terrible for that little mouse! But, I have the right to protect my house. I am really sorry, but he was trespassing. I had no choice.

Hopefully there was only one and I don't have to eliminate an entire family!

Did anybody ever read The Cricket in Times Square as a kid? In it there was a mouse named Tucker whose dad died when he was trying to bring back some food to the family. The dad inadvertantly picked up an aspirin and he essentially overdosed when he was trying to carry it back! That's all I can think about now that I got my mouse! And come to think of it, what a strange way for an animal to die in a childrens book. Mmm.....
