My Holiday Quirks

One of my favorite bloggers, Red and White Preppy, tagged me! So, here are six quirky holiday things about me:

Six Random "Holiday" Things about One Is Not So Lonely:
1. While I pride myself on not being lonely, I still think Christmas Eve might be a little too lonely, even for me to spend alone. I am fortunate to have my family very close by (ie. 25 minutes away) so every year, we still all drive out to my parents house and spend the night. It just wouldn't be the same waking up without them. And I'll continue to do this until I have my own family to wake up to on Christmas morning.
2. My all time favorite Christmas movie is Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. It is the sweetest story, sort of a Gift Of the Magi-esque story. Two otters, a mom and a son, each sell the thing in the world most precious to the other and plan to use the money to buy something for the other. (Update! Just googled it to find a video to include here and found out that it's coming to Broadway! What a great Christmas present!)
3. As I mentioned a few posts ago, my sister lived in London for two years. She made some very close friends while she lived there. One of them still sends my family a pack of Christmas Crackers each year. They are small packages wrapped in paper. Everyone sits around the table and holds one end of theirs and one end of their neighbor's and pulls. The package "cracks" open and little gifts come out. One of the things is a small tissue paper crown, so we all eat Christmas Eve dinner wearing small paper crowns....my dad's is always too small on his head.
4. My least favorite month of the year is January. I love the holidays because everyone is in a good mood. It seems like every store you go to, the people are cheerful. The mailbox is always full of Christmas cards from family and friends. But it's all over in January. That is the month that my small house is usually the messiest. And also when I finally get around to taking down decorations. I think the saddest part about the holidays being over is taking down the decorations.
5. I love, love, love candy canes. When we were in high school, The Columbia Fam's mom used to save some so that when I'd get over to her house, I wouldn't eat all the ones off of the tree!
6. The best Christmas present I ever got was the first two seasons of Fraggle Rock on DVD. And don't think that this was years ago. No, I got these two years ago. As a kid, I can remember sitting in the den with my sisters watching the old HBO logo come swirling onto the TV screen. And we'd watch Fraggle Rock every Monday night. It was great.

Now, I'd like to tag the following six people to do the same thing! Tell us six quirky holiday things and tag six other people!
