Check me out!

For some reason, whenever a student needs to film something or take pictures for their Journalism class, they come knocking on my door. Maybe it's because they know I'll let them in, or maybe it's because I'm super photogenic. Not sure which.

Well, this is what a girl got last week.....
It really sums up my attitude most days. The picture says it all. Someone (a freshman, no doubt) is driving me crazy as I try to instill a love of Shakespeare in the hearts of kids who roll their eyes at anything that isn't presented to them in a "hard beat".

Another slang lesson for those of you not fortunate enough to spend 8 hours a day with adolescent aspiring rap stars - hard means good. Used in a sentence it would sound something like this "Man, that beat's hard, yo" and then they would begin to freestyle rap to the beat some kid is incessantly banging out on his desk, my desk, the wall...anything that won't bang back. Frequently freestyle raps in my room are fueled by something I've said such as "Please don't bang on the wall." That freestyle would sound something like "Please...P P Please don't bang on the wall, y'all. Please....P P Please don't bang on the wall y'all." You get the picture.

That might be how I look, but this is how I feel....especially after all that freestyling....

Isn't that hilarious? Imagine how much more effective teachers would be if we could really turn our eyes red and shoot some threatening laser out. It would be something you learned in grad school and NOT something that kids could learn. I wouldn't want them looking at me like that.

My student took all these and then Photo Shop-ed them all up and sent them to me. I think they turned out so funny!

Hope she gets an A on the assignment!

Ever had your students sing "Buy You a Drank" to you, complete with grinding dance moves? Third year of teaching...worst class I have ever taught "performed" that one for me.

PS: Here's my school's schedule the next three days - tom.: homeroom (classes shortened by 10 minutes)/tornado drill; Thurs.: half day; Fri.: Pep rally schedule. Ohhhhh, and I hate National Boards :)

one of my middle schooler was sing that "blame it on the alcohol" song. And they wonder why I play Hannah Montona and Disney during PE.
