I'm Back

My Great Comeback

I took a self-imposed six month hiatus from my what used to be regular blogging. A hiatus lasting an undetermined period of time a la Tiger Woods – though his hiatus was from golfing, mine from writing; his due to indiscretion, mine due to laziness. For that, I am sorry. As with anything, I had made daily blogging a habit. And, as with working out, I let my daily writing habit fell apart. I began to think once again that I had very little to write about that people would really enjoy reading.

Then, one of my freshmen this year mistakenly used the wrong word when she meant to say cannibal (I swear I don’t teach them anything remotely related to cannibalism…I don’t know why this always comes up) and I was reminded of my blog. I recently dropped a 12 pack of Miller Lite glass bottles in the check out line at the local Publix (by some miracle I didn’t break a single bottle, but every head in a three check-out aisle radius turned and stared), and I was reminded of my blog. Regularly, my students say something and I find myself thinking “If I was a blogging woman, I’d write about that.” And I slowly began to miss my blog.

A lot has happened over the past few months: I’ve gotten my National Board Certification for teaching, an accomplishment that less that 40% achieve on their first try and, like any financially responsible person, I promptly went out and bought me a new car; I've completed my first full semester of my PhD program and wonder every day why I've done this to myself; I’ve developed the best relationship I’ve ever been in with one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met; my sister got engaged over Christmas break; I drove to Ohio for another wedding, this one minus the travel headaches; I went to Edisto; Taco Bell made the smartest marketing move ever and began promoting a drive through diet complete with a woman who has lost 54 pounds eating tacos, and yes, I've tried it; I’ve spent the past three days unable to use the bathroom because my legs are so sore from P90X; and I’ve missed my blogging friends.

So, I’ve staged a comeback. A nervous comeback, because I worry I don’t have things to write about, I worry no one is out there to read still, and I worry that I will slip again. But, it’s a comeback nonetheless.

The Long and The Short: I’m back, I’m public, and I’m proud.

I'm so glad you're back. You shouldn't feel the need to apologize for taking a break. Your blog is for you, but you just happen to share it with blog world. There is no obligation to write every day, but I'm glad you're back. I enjoy your style of writing and funny stories. Happy New Year and congrast to your newly-engaged sister and to your for the great relationship.
