or "Why Not To Test A Fog Machine INSIDE"
We decided that today would be a good day to test out the fog machine we plan to incorporate in our skit Friday at the Homecoming pep rally. Not sure why we decided to test it. But I am responsible for this as well. The kids asked me where they should go to test it, and I said over by the doors. Well, let me just tell you....the fog machine works just fine. Fine enough to fill the entire hallway with smoke and set the fire alarms off.......at 4:45.
* Yes, while people are still in the building.
* Yes, they all evacuated.
* Yes, the principal came running in to find out why the halls were filled with smoke.
* Yes, I was mortified.
* Yes, the alarms were going off and of course no one could get them to stop. Each grade level was there working on Homecoming stuff. And
* Yes, everyone wanted to know if it had really been the freshmen who set it off and evacuated
1) the entire Main Office staff
2) the entire student government population who was there working on Homecoming stuff
3) the entire gym filled with student athletes who were practicing inside on a rainy day
4) a meeting for a group of people that I didn't recognize which means they must have been community members because they were too old to be students
5) the entire band room which was probably practicing for the pep rally and subsequent football game
6) and the district auditorium staff.
All in all, I'd estimate 75 to 80 people were effected by this. I even got a call from my good friend who is also a junior class sponsor asking if the rumors were true and if my freshmen had done it and could they all go back in! She was laughing. All I could think was that I thankfully didn't do this during the school day and evacuate 1800 people like the art teachers did last year when they accidentally melted wax on a hot plate during class! Now that would be truly horrifying!
And, for the answer to the question I know you are all asking.....
Yes, the firetrucks came.
I took my camera out there but I didn't have the heart to make light of it with the principal running around trying to calm things down. Deep down inside, all I could think of was "I can't wait to write this all down......"

Been there, done that. It's part of being a teacher ;)
It gives the freshmen something to laugh about at their 10 year reunion...
