A Conversation

The following occurred in my 9th grade classroom a few minutes ago between myself and a student:

I feel the need to remind those of you who are removed from the high school classrooms that 9th grade students are 14 or 15 years old.

Student: Miss L, when is your birthday?

Me: It's in July.

Student: July what?

Me: 7. It's really easy to remember....7th month, 7th day and I was born in '79.

Student: WHAT!?!?! You were born in 79!? You're almost as old as my mom!

Before I could finish thinking to myself "Gee, thanks," she finishes her sentence...
My mom was born in 1978!

I didn't know what to say to that.

You're a July birthday, too!?!?!?!?! My birthday is 3 days after yours!!!!

Yeah, when I say 26, they ask me when I plan on having kids...and that I need to hurry up. Lovely :)

Hmm... sounds like your student is the product of a teenage unplanned pregnancy hahaha!

WOW! Can you imagine having a ninth grader at the age of 31? That mom was a teenage bride for sure!

Oh wow...I don't know about you, but I feel really old since I am getting ready to hit that "30" mark! 1979 was a good year, though! And someone a year older than us having a ninth grader? I am usually the youngest mom out of Tyler's classmates, and she is only about to turn 6!
