Nostradamus Through the Eyes of a Ninth Grader

The current hot topic of conversation in the classroom:

Why does the world have to end in 2012?

Well, I thought they'd become privy to Nostradamus' predictions because they'd been tuning into the History Channel. Wishful thinking.....it's going around on text messaging. I should have known.

Reasons they are not happy about this:

1. It will ruin their high school graduation plans. That's the year they graduate.
2. They will only be 18 years old. Not old enough to experience the end of the world.
3. Why couldn't they have been born sooner so that they can be older when the world comes to an end? This is from the student who told me her mother was born in '78. I didn't bother to explain that it might have been biologically impossible for her to have been born any earlier than she was.
4. They have big plans for after high school that are being directly impacted by the end of the world.

And the winner:

5. "The world is going is end! I might die!" A direct quote. MIGHT die? If the world ends, I am afraid, my dear, that we will all die.

Now they are debating the potential burn out of the sun as a result of the end of the world. Their big concern right now is the fact that they will be cold when the sun burns out. Never mind there would be no world to live on. They don't want to be cold.

These kids are hilarious. I love my job!

Now they are calling me Home Skillet because I am typing and not paying attention to them talk about the end of the world. I told them to hold on a minute and apparently I was getting "ratchet" which means, well, I am not sure what it means.

Here's to exams! This is what happens when you have kids for two hours stuck in the same room!

They aren't the only ones turning into the History Channel last week. One of those shows FREAKED me out! In fact, I'm thinking about it again and am freaking out. Eh...time to go calm down with some birthday cake.

Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday, Home Skillet :)

That is hilarious -- not the end of the world, but the comments of your students. The end of the world is pretty damn scary!

Well I Do Declare said...

"The world is going is end! I might die!"

This has made my day!!

My favorite is number four. God forbid anything get in the way of a teenager's plans because we all know the world revolves around them.
These are hilarious.
