I copied and pasted the following article from The State.
Teacher on leave after student reportedly shot with Nerf gun
BEAUFORT -- A science teacher at Battery Creek High School was placed on paid administrative leave Monday after authorities say he shot a foam dart from a plastic Nerf gun at a student.
The mother of the 14-year-old girl who was hit with the dart said she wanted to pursue assault charges against Jeffery Baker, 29, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Department report.
Reports indicate the teacher fired a foam dart from the toy gun toward a group of students who were talking and laughing in his classroom. After most students quieted down, one girl continued to talk, and the teacher fired a dart at her in a "joking manner," according to the report.
Baker was standing about 6 or 7 feet away from the student when he fired the toy gun, and she was not visibly injured, according to the report.
The dart hit the girl's left shoulder, and she stood up and slapped the teacher with the back of her hand, according to the report. Beaufort County School District officials declined to discuss whether the student was disciplined for allegedly striking the teacher.
The school district is investigating the incident, said Jacqueline Rosswurm, human resources officer for the school district. Police confiscated two Nerf guns and several foam darts as evidence.
Can you imagine!? I think this is so unfair. And they aren't saying whether or not the girl is being punished. Are you kidding me? She attacked him. She intentionally backhanded him. Over a Nerf dart? Nerf darts are MADE TO SHOOT AT PEOPLE! And they are also about the size of my little finger. The mother wants to pursue assault charges? Unreal. The girls assaulted him! She ought to be kicked out of school for attacking a teacher.
And we wonder why people aren't beating down the school house doors to teach.

That is totally ridiculous. I didn't see that in our local paper, but I am not really good about reading it. Unbelievable...
Absolutely unbelievable.
This one makes me sick! People are out of control. When I was in elementary school, we had a teacher that would throw chalk board erasers at us if we wouldn't shut-up and we never gave it a second thought. We all laughed whenever he did it.
Crazy times we live in...
I'm guessing I should probably stop throwing chalk at my students when they fall asleep in class then....
