I am finally able to go to sleep at a reasonable hour!

Sort of.

What I mean by that is no more late nights cheering on Michael Phelps to victory! Not too sure how I feel about the Olympics being held in a country 12 hours ahead of us. It really puts a cramp in my sleeping patterns. Especially when I have to get up so early!
But how about Michael Phelps!? 8 gold medals! And 7 of them were World Record breaking! Unbelievable. I heard he's moving into a new house in Baltimore. I saw an interview with him on the Today Show.........Anyone want to go on a road trip!? Did I mention I heart Michael Phelps? Maybe he'll read my blog........

So, school is back in session. Kids come back in (gulp) two days. Check out the counter to the right. Yikes. I do have a super excellent schedule this year. One that, if anyone else finds out about, they will go straight to the principal's office and complain about how unfair it is. For the record, I've done plenty of CYA maneuvers. I've gone to an administrator twice about getting it fixed so it's more fair. Not that I want it to change, but at least this way no one can say I asked for it! The good news............an extra planning period! A class they had given me just didn't fill up! And this was only a week ago. So there wasn't really time to add another class in. This brings my number of students to a whopping 52. For the entire year. I am extremely hesitant to celebrate because 1) even though school starts in two days, they could easily change my schedule and 2) there are a few certain someone's who will be extremely pissed at me for having this schedule. Even though it isn't my fault! See, they had their extra planning periods taken away. Gulp. Keep your fingers crossed neither of those two things happen to me.

So, school is back in session. Right? Here's something to gnaw on.....how do you all feel about this scenario:

Teachers should be seen as role models, right? Well, I know of a teacher somewhere who is pregnant. She isn't married but apparently has a serious boyfriend. However, faculty members at this school are torn. Some say it is a fireable offense. Some say it sets a bad example in a soceity where Hollywood already idolizes unwed mothers. And some say that people each have their own opinions on what consitutes a family, and they are entilted to live their lives however they want. Yowza. What do you all think?

On another note -
Imagine this......you go on a blind date. You are set up by mutual friends. The date seems to go very well. You have a lot in common. You are going to the beach for the weekend a few days later. He actually thanks, yes, THANKS, the guy that set you two up for introducing him to someone like that. He texts you to say have a great weekend at the beach and to tell you he had such a good time at dinner a few nights ago. Twelve days go by.......and NOTHING. But wait. You start to wonder.....Did he ask you to let him know when you got back in town? Should you have texted him when you got home? Is it your fault? Maybe he thinks you aren't interested! Maybe he thinks since you never contacted him when you returned that you don't want to go out again! WHY DID YOU DELETE THOSE TEXTS!?!?!? Where do you go from here?
Hmmm.......

And finally, a few things I am going to really miss now that school is back in:
1. Being able to work out in the morning. Okay, so I didn't really do this that often, but I am going to miss the option!
2. Being able to read whatever I want. I just finished The Last Book in the Universe and, man!, was it good. Similar to The Giver that I tried (unsuccessfully, apparently) to encourage all of you to read. Set in the future. It's a young adult (YA) novel that I plan to use with my freshmen this school year. Go read a book!
3. Sleeping in. I know, I know. Who doesn't want to do that!?
4. Being able to run errands! I have a huge long list, and it's hard to get it all done in the afternoons!
5. Being able to stay at Edisto indefinitely! You know I love to go down there without a plan.
6. Just going back in general. But, did I mention my schedule is the bomb?

You know what? I am going to have to set this blog to private....what if someone read these things!?!? Don't worry though. Becuase if I do, I'll give you all a big heads up and get some email addresses.

we have a teacher at my school (a middle school) who is 25ish, unmarried and preggo with her 2nd child! Both children will have different dads... and neither was a serious bf. Can't wait to see what kind of drama will be coming from that situation!! I feel your pain about starting school, I love my mornings and time to run errands! Have a good week!

1) The unwed mother situation: we have a situation with a male teacher at our school who plans to marry his girlfriend that just found out it was pregnant, but it isn't the best situation because the girlfriend is a little "off". Personally, I don't think it's a reason to fire your teacher, but it definitely doesn't set the best example.

2) Blind date: I'm bolder than most girls when it comes to communication with guys. I would text him and say something like, "Hey there. Hope all is well!" If you don't hear back from him, it's his loss. I feel you there with the confusion!!!

3) I teach Last Book to my freshmen and really do love the story!

Hope you have a good last couple of workdays! I'll be crossing my fingers for you that you can keep that schedule :)
