I read all the time. And I love it when I come across a line that makes me want to read it again and again and again. Sometimes the biggest messages come out of the least amount of words. I've recently come across several like that. Unintentionally, there appears to be a bit of a theme here!
1. "True love cannot be found where it truly does not exist, nor can it be hidden where it truly does."
This is on my sister's Facebook page (I'm a junkie now. Oops.). But I think it's very powerful. I've mentioned before that I think everything happens for a reason. And no matter what, we can't force things. Sometimes when we aren't ready for something, it happens. And it isn't always comfortable or maybe the "timing" is off. But I think the most important thing to remember is that we shouldn't spend so much time analyzing why something happened or questioning the where's and when's of things. It doesn't matter how, when or why something happened. It just matters that it happened.
2. Have you ever heard of the site Post Secret? The site says "PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard." My cousin sometimes puts a copy of a postcard on her blog. The things some of the people send in are so sad, but you wonder how many people around you carry something so heavy in their hearts.
3. "Daddy believed that a woman with too much education would never find a husband...The only respectable women who lived alone in our communities were schoolteachers. Nobody expected them to marry...The had to live alone in a world that believed nothing was more tragic than a woman alone." - from bell hooks Class Matters, p. 20-21
This book is a memoir I'm reading for a professional development book club. bell hooks (intentionally written in all lower case) is discussing the impact social class has. And she is referring to her experiences growing up underprivileged decades ago. Nevertheless, I just quit my job and dropped out of the PhD program!
4. "Why did they have to have the inauguration in Washington, D.C.? I mean, why can't they do it somewhere else? Like Alabama?"
Okay, so this doesn't really fit the theme of the first three. And the source of the quote? Yep....a freshman!
